ANNOUNCEMENT: CANCELLATION OF 2009 OMYA/SUPERIOR CRITERIUM

I am writing this letter to the cycling community to apologize for having to cancel the 6th Annual OMYA/Superior Criterium that was scheduled for 3/22/2009. We changed contacts within Superior this year and incorrectly assumed that the new contact would be taking care of the items the previous contact took care of. We will be meeting with the town and within the club to discuss what went wrong this year and take the necessary steps to assure it does not happen for next years event.

I am deeply sorry for any inconvenience this may have caused anyone. We are in the process of mailing refund checks to anyone who pre-registered for the event. Questions/Comments: David Reid @ superior2009@wmrc.org

The 10th Annual OMYA/Superior Road Race

Saturday, March 21st, 2009

$2500 cash prizes!

The Course:  The 62 mile out and back course begins in the town of Superior.  Very hilly (23 tooth cogs, or greater if you like to spin, are recommended) smooth road to the border of Winkelman, 31 miles one way, then return back to Superior on the same road.  The finish is new for 2009 and will be in the town of Superior.  Officials will locate exact finish day of race.  Feed zone is between Ray road and the 153 mile marker at the base of the long gradual climb approximately 15 miles from the finish.  Roads open to traffic.  Please stay to the right if you are not with your follow vehicle. Race runs rain or shine.  Short course turn-around after railroad tracks.

The Time:  On site registration (add $5 late fee) open 7:00 – 8:00am.  Field limits for each group: 100 riders.

The Directions:  From Phoenix - Follow US 60 east to Superior, exit at State Route 177 and follow it North over the freeway.  Take a left onto Main St.  Park along Main St on the east edge of town.  From New Mexico – follow US 60 west to Superior. 

The Bonus:  $10 refund to the first 6 registered racers who commit to providing a follow vehicle/truck

The Directions:  From Phoenix - Follow US 60 east to Superior, exit at State Route 177 and follow it North over the freeway (this is Magma).  Left at first intersection (Main).  Park on Main street.  Start/finish is on Main street.  From New Mexico – follow US60 west to Superior.

The Course:  0.7 mile hilly, technical “L” shaped, downtown criterium.  Start/finish on Main street, Superior AZ

The Time:  On site registration (with $5 late fee) open 8:00 and closes ½ hour before each race.  See below for start times.  Field limit for each group is limited to 60 riders.
